Resumo
Major depressive disorder has been increasingly recognized in childhood in recent
decades, becoming a public health problem. However, it has recently become a field
of scientific interest, and it is still a subject little explored in Brazilian literature. Thus,
the present work has as main objective to investigate the main aspects present in the
treatment and the main interventions used.from the contributions of CognitiveBehavioral Therapy. Therefore, exploratory research was used to study the theme, in
order to better understand childhood depression through previously published
materials. The results indicate that the treatment involves different scientifically based
therapeutic strategies, such as psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring, problemsolving training, social skills training, programming of pleasurable activities and parent
training. Despite the limitations found in the literature, it is concluded that the published
studies present important discussions and effective cognitive-behavioral strategies in
the treatment of childhood depression. From this study, it is clear the importance of
developing more research on the treatment to assist in the clinical management of
depressive children and thus carry out an adequate treatment through scientifically
based practices, minimizing the suffering and damages resulting from the disorder.
