Os impactos da cultura de performance sobre a saúde mental de atletas profissionais de jiu-jitsu.
Resumo
This study aims to analyze how the performance society, performance culture, and commercialization of sports impact the mental health of professional Jiu-Jitsu athletes. It examines the context in which these practitioners are immersed, subject to intense demands for excellence, increasing result pressures, and the transformation of sports into a tradable commodity. The research seeks to understand the psychological impacts of this situation, highlighting challenges such as the relentless pursuit of success, commercial visibility, and competitive pressures. The focus is on elucidating the effects of this complex sociocultural dynamic on the mental health of Jiu-Jitsu athletes.The study adopted a qualitative exploratory approach, collecting narratives through semi-structured interviews on Google Forms, emphasizing the signing of the informed consent form (ICF). The interviews were analyzed using Bardin's Content Analysis, specifically Thematic Analysis, to comprehend the impacts of performance culture on the mental health of Jiu-Jitsu athletes. The results underscore the importance of considering the challenges posed by the performance society and commercialization of sports for the mental health of Jiu-Jitsu athletes, as well as recognizing the positive aspects of this practice. It highlights not only the obstacles but also the potential intrinsic advantages of immersion in this noble martial art.
