Implicações psicossexuais da braquiterapia em mulheres com câncer no colo do útero.
Resumo
Abstract:
Brachytherapy emerges as an oncological treatment widely used in cervical cancer,
which, however, can lead to sequelae for those who undergo it, such as: gastrointestinal
alterations, early menopause, reproductive impossibility, vaginal endoscopy, etc. Thus,
the present qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study aimed to analyze the
psychosexual repercussions of brachytherapy in women with cervical cancer undergoing
treatment at a reference institution in health care in the state of Ceará. Semi-structured
interviews were conducted with 8 women and analyzed using thematic content analysis,
obtaining two main categories (self-perceived changes and short-term brachytherapy) and
subcategories from these. It was concluded that brachytherapy mainly generates
emotional changes and sexual desire, indicating the need for emotional support in an
empathetic and explanatory way during the therapeutic process.
