Resumo: Mortar is one of the most used materials in civil construction, being essential for the constructive process. It can be used in laying ceramics, bricks and ceramic and concrete blocks, in addition to also having a coating function. For a long time, the production of this mortar was carried out on site, using available materials, without precise quality control. However, industrialized mortars were developed with the objective of providing greater productivity and at the same time quality. With that, the present work aims to technically compare mortars produced on site and industrialized through an experimental study in the laboratory. Thus, two lines were defined for mortars produced on site, in volume, being 1: 3 (cement: arisco) and 1: 1: 6 (cement: lime: sand). Thus, the amount of water needed to reach the consistency index was determined, according to NBR 13276 (ABNT, 2016a), equal to 260 ± 5 mm, as recommended by NBR 16541 (ABNT, 2016b). Water retention tests were also carried out, according to NBR 13277 (ABNT, 2005a), mass density and incorporated air content, according to NBR 13278 (ABNT, 2005b), water absorption by capillarity, according to NBR 15259 (ABNT, 2005c), tensile adhesion resistance according to NBR 13528 (ABNT, 2019) and crack analysis in application as a coating on a 50x50 cm panel. As a result, the studied mortars showed good water retention, but the industrialized mortar has an advantage. In addition, industrialized mortars performed better in terms of density, presented greater cohesion and finishing with a trowel, and less pathological manifestations such as cracks in the lining. However, the mortar produced on site with lime and sand, had the superior result in tensile adhesion resistance. So, with the results collected, it is noticed that industrialized mortar produces coatings less prone to cracking when compared to those produced in the studied work. Keywords: Mortar produced on site. industrialized mortar.
