Resumo: The research addresses the understanding of the experience of hospitalization in therapeutic communities by homeless people (PSR), focusing on the meanings attributed by these people and the analysis of social reintegration. The objectives include analyzing experiences during hospitalization, identifying changes in residents after the experience and examining the process of social reintegration after returning to the streets. Using a qualitative approach, the research was conducted at Casa São Francisco, a community center for the Shalom Community, to investigate the interpretations, interpersonal relationships and representations of HP. Exploratory research was used, aiming to acquire knowledge, formulate questions, present hypotheses and clarify concepts. The participants are graduates of the therapeutic community, all men, living on a Shalom Community site. Analysis of the results reveals categories such as service quality, health care, abstinence, psychosocial impacts, work, income, perception of drug use, social support, stigma and hopelessness. Some challenges cited by interviewees during hospitalization include a shortage of qualified professionals, lack of autonomy, lack of knowledge about the inmates, lack of timely care and lack of psychological support and psychoeducation. The diversity of experiences highlights the complexity of recovery. The research contributes to the understanding of chemical dependency and the social reintegration of HP in therapeutic communities. The results offer support for the construction of intervention practices and public policies for clinical practices, public policies and social interventions, highlighting the need for investments to improve the quality of therapeutic institutions and promote a comprehensive approach to the treatment of chemical dependency Keywords: Drug use, Homeless people, Social Reintegration, Therapeutic Community
