Resumo: An abusive relationship can be characterized by attempted or actual excessive control of one person to the detriment of another, which can happen in different types of relationships and in different ways. In the case of intimate or loving relationships, the data indicate that women are considered the largest number of victims, especially given the historical and social roles of submission in which women continue to be inserted to this day. Abusive relationships are one 4 of the forms of violence against women, whether physical, psychological, sexual, patrimonial or moral. Regardless of the form of violence, there are many emotional impacts on the lives of women who are victims, namely, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and irritability. In this sense, seeking strategies that help in this process is fundamental, psychotherapy being one of them. Furthermore, among the various types of approach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy presents itself as one of the possibilities of theoretical and methodological assumptions in intervention processes with women who experience these types of relationships. With these factors in mind, this research aimed to analyze the performance of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in relation to a psychotherapeutic process for a woman experiencing an abusive relationship. Therefore, a qualitative research was carried out, focusing on a case study of a woman beingr assisted at a teaching clinic for more than two years. The reports from the patient's medical record were analyzed in order to obtain more information about how the clinical management of the approach under study was done, in that specific case. Furthermore, to carry out this research, it was necessary that the participant sign the Free and Informed Consent Form, stating her agreement to take part in the research. As results, it was possible to observe, through the use of techniques, such as psychoeducation, Socratic questioning, recording automatic thoughts, problem solving, decision making, planning, cognitive conceptualization and the use of scales, that the patient was able to give new meaning to experiences associated with abusive relationships, as well as improve her selfimage and self-esteem, in addition to developing more assertions.
